On the 1881 census Elizabeth gives her age as 62, having been born in Pemberton, and her occupation as House Keeper. She's living in the Barracks, Orrell, with her grandchildren (Elizabeth, William, Richard, Thomas, Ann and George Pennington from Pemberton and Orrell, and Richard and Elizabeth Ashurst from Queensferry, Flint, Wales).
Elizabeth's died on 1st December 1885 at home at The Barracks, Lamberhead Green, Orrell. Her age is given as 67 and her occupation given as Widow of Thomas Winnard, Sawyer at Colliery. She died of Bronchitis, as certified by H Molyneux and her death was registered by Ann Ashurst, her daughter in law, the following day. The registrar was Jeffery Boynes.
This means that either Thomas was her second husband or that she had at least one son, Ann's husband, who was born before Elizabeth's marriage, which would mean her maiden name was Ashurst? |
