| Notes for Jane | ||||||
| Fastened inside the Parish Register of Standish is the following receipt: Received from Mrs Jane Winstanly the sum of five guineas for a fund with obligation to say one Mass yearly during her life and for sixty years after her decease. I promise to leave the said five guineas to my successor or where the Superior pleases in Lancashire at my death as witness my hand this twenty fourth day of June 1781 Archibold Mc Donald Jane Winstanly Archibold was the incumbent priest from 1770 to 1783. An annotation states Jane Winstanly died February 1st 1795. This memorandum of her death was obtained from a niece of the lady and here inserted by me Reverand J Duck. In my account I have only £5 and think only 5 were bought in the fund, the ledger will show but it is of little... At this point the memo ceases. Whether damaged or never completed is unknown. Assuming an age of 20 for when her earliest known (so far) daughter was born that would make her 54 at the time of death. Not bad for the 18th Century. Given that her death was notified by her niece this means that eithre Jane or William had at least one sibling who had at least one daughter. | ||||||
