On her record of baptism Mary's parents give their residence as Town and her father's occupation as Bread Baker.
Margaret died at home at 8 Katherine Street on 8th October 1856 aged 67. Her occupation is given as wife of John Oulton, Assistant Overseer of Poor, of Asthma Peripneumonia. Her death was registered by her son Robert of Stamford Street, Ashton Under Lyne on 10th October. The registrar was John Whitehead. |

On the night of 31/3/1851, census night, the family lived at 8 Catherine St, Ashton Under Lyne and John was a Poor Rate Collector.
On the records of the births of several of his children John gave his occupation as Corn Dealer.
John died on 17th April 1857 at home, Katherine Street, just 6 months after the death of his wife Margaret. He was aged 71, it says on the certificate, although he was actually 75. His occpation is given as Poor Rate Collector and the cause of death as Decay of Nature for 2 months. His death was registered by his son, John Barlow Oulton of Henrietta Street on 20th April 1857. The registrar was John Whitehead. |
