| Notes for Francis Auty |
On the evening of the 1881 census, 31/03/1881, Frank and the family, except Carrie and Charles, were present at 8 Wellington Street, Blackpool.
Living at the lodging house next door, run by Henry Cooper from Blackburn, was one John Thomas Todd, Architct's Apprentice aged 18, from Accrington. Carrie later married him. What was that about the boy next door?
Frank died at home on 26/06/1884 of "Phthisis Pulmonalis Haeomoptysis in a few minutes" and his death was certified by William B Richardson. His death was registered by his son, Charles, of the same address on 28th June 1884. The registrar was Nicholas Dixon Worthington. On the death certificate Frank's occupation is listed as Stonemason.
On 26th June 1884 a bill for £3 11s was paid by Hannah for plot A448 in Layton Cemetery, Blackpool, for her husband's remains. The price was made up of £2 10s for the land, 14s 6d for labour (sinking to 13 feet depth), 3s for certificate of purchase, 2s 6d minister's fee and 1s clerk's fee. Also interred in the same plot are Hannah, his wife, and Francis and Frank Leslie Todd, both of whom died young. Presumably there were the children of his daughter Carrie and her husband John. Where are they interred? |
| Notes for Hannah (Spouse 1) |
Hannah's birth took place at Thornhill. Her mother's name is given as Caroline Gooder, formerly Asquith. Her father's occupation is given as Waterman. The birth was registered by her mother on seventh February and the registrar was Thomas Beetson.
By the time of the 1891 census the widowed Hannah's occupation was given as Lodging House Keeper, aged 48, born in Thornhill, Yorkshire. They still lived at 8 Wellington Street. Also living with Hannah and Rhoda was Hannah Batty, described as 16, Weaver, from Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Her relationship to Hannah is given as niece and visitor. Given that Hannah's maiden name was Gooder this must mean she had a married sister.
Hannah died at home of Acute Pneumonia on 7th April 1893, her death being certified by Henry Thomas Barton and registered by her son Charles, who now lived at 4 Raikes Parade, Blackpool, on the same day. The registrar was Thomas Dixon. On the certificate Hannah's occupation is listed as Widow of Frank Auty, a Stonemason. |
| Notes for Francis & Hannah (Family) |
| On their wedding certificate Francis is called Frank and his occupation given as Stone Mason. His father, Charles, was also a Stone Mason. Hannah has no occupation but her father's is given as Labourer. The wedding took place according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns. The ceremony was performed by James Webb and witnessed by Charles Thornes and Paul Ward. |
