Notes for Sarah Ann Kenworthy
Sarah Ann died at 44 Devonshire Road, Blackpool on 26th April 1912 and on her death certificate her occupation is listed as Widow of John Barlow Oulton, Commercial Clerk. She died of Senile Decay and Chronic Gastritis, as certified by Archibald Gardner. Her death was registered by her daughter Fanny of the same address on 27th April, the registrar being Thomas Dixon. Her age is given as 79, which would imply a birth date of 1833, wheras the 1881 census return suggests 1835. Which is correct? I'm still looking for her birth certificate, but as copies are only available from 1837 onwards this may be difficult to obtain.
Notes for John Barlow (Spouse 1)
On his entry of birth, John's parents lived in Town and gave his occupation as corn dealer.
At the time of the 1881 census the family was living at 96 Wellbeck Street, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire. John's occupation was Timber Merchant's Cashier.
By the time of the 1891 census the family had moved to 122 Raikes Road, Blackpool. John is described as 65 and living on his own means. Saragh Ann is now 59 and still living there are Fannie, 27, and James William, 19, Plumbers' Apprentice.
John died at home, 44 Devonshire Road, Blackpool, of a Cerebral Haemorrhage, as certified by Archibold Gardner, on 4th July 1910 at the grand old age of 84. Not bad for the turn of the century. His death was registered by his son James William of 7 Hornby Street, Blackpool the following day, 5th July 1910. The registrar was Thomas Dixon. John was listed as a Timber Merchants Cashier (Retired) on the death certificate. |
Notes for John Barlow & Sarah Ann (Family)
On their wedding certificate John's occupation is given as Book Keeper and his father's as Gentleman. Sarah isn't given an occupation, but her father's is given as Book keeper also. The ceremony took place at the Parish Church and was witnessed by William Booth and Margaret Oulton and performed by Thomas Parker.
