Notes for Robert St Clare
By the time of the 1841 census Robert and family were living at Rand Street, John's age is given as 60, his occupation as Dyer and his place of birth as Scotland. Given his parents married in Preston, and he was baptised there I think maybe he was being a bit patriotic for his parents' homeland.

By 1851 Robert, Alice and Margaret were living at 100 Duke Street. Robert gives his age as 73, his occupation as Watchman and Dyer and place of birth Scotland. Alice is 56, says she was born in Kirkby Stephen and puts her occupation as something I cannot read, but it looks like "Jesus House". Doesn't seem right, but I looked at a few other entries for something similar but they all looked the same. Margaret, now 16, gives her occupation as Rover in Factory.

By the time of the 1861 census Robert had been widowed and is living with his son Thomas. Thomas gives his place of birth as Lancaster and Robert still says he was born in Scotland.

Robert died on twenty first September 1867 at home at Brick Kiln Lane off Standishgate aged 92 of General Debility. His occupation is given as A Dyer and the death registered by Catherine Cluborne of Griffin Yard Off Standishgate, Wigan on the same day. The registrar was Robert Halliwell. His age is given as 92.
Notes for Alice (Spouse 1)
On the 1841 census Alice's age is given as 45, so could have been up to 5 years older, her occupation as Char(woman) and her place of birth Yorkshire. By 1851 she says she's from Kirkby Stephen. This isn't in Yorkshire, it's in Cumbria, however it is only just over the border so maybe the border was a little fluid back then.

Alice died on sixth March 1860 at home at 2 Duke Street aged 65. Her occupation is given as Wife of Robert Sinclair a Dyer and the cause of death Natural Decay. Her death was registered by Margaret Seddon of 5 Whitaker's Yard, Wigan Lane, Wigan. Presumably Margaret washer daughter. The death was registered eighth March and the registrar was Robert Halliwell.
