| Notes for John Sinclair | ||||||||||||||||||||
| On the 1841 census John's age is given as 15 and his occupation as Shepherd. He lived with his parents at Little London. By the time of the 1851 census he was 29 and lived with his wife and children Ralph and Mary. His occupation was given as Manager in a Factory and they lived at 62 Little London. By the time the 1861 census came around the family had moved to 7 Little London. John was now an Overlooker at a Cotton Factory. Of the children only Ralph, Mary, Julia and Thomas are present, as is Thomas Rigby, described as a lodger. Wild guess, but I should imagine he was Ann's nephew. He was 31 and a Cotton Factory Labourer. On the 1871 census John and family are living at 7 Little London. John is an Overlooker in a Factory. Still living at home were Thomas, a Cotton Operator, Joseph, a Scholar, and 60 year old Ellen Passion, a lodger who gives her occupation as Charwoman. John died on 23rd March 1875. His age is given as 54 and his occupation as Overlooker in a Cotton Factory. The cause of death is given as Paralysis and was certified by R S Smallman. His death was registered by his son Thomas, of 7 Little London on the same day, the registrar being Robert Halliwell. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes for Anna (Spouse 1) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Anna's godparents were Thomas Winnard and Esther Aspinall. At the time of the 1841 census Ann's age is given as 20 and her occupation as Cotton Room. Presumably that means she worked in one? The family lived at Little London. At the time of the 1881 census Anna was living with her son, Thomas, at 5 Griffin Yard, Standishgate, Wigan, along with her son Joseph. However they also appear on the returns as living at 7 Little London, Standishgate. | ||||||||||||||||||||
