Notes for Hugh (Spouse 1)
On the 1851 census Hugh and Isabella are living at 29 Little Wood End, Clayton-le-Woods. John is a Joiner and Isabella gives her place of birth as Chipping. Also present is Ann, their 1 year old daughter, born in Clayton-le-Woods.

By the time of the 1881 census Hugh, a carpenter, is a widower living at 166 Frog Lane, Wigan. Living with him are his son John, a Miner, daughter Margaret, a Dress Maker, and son Hugh, a Pick Sharpener (Blacksmith).
Notes for Hugh & Isabella (Family)
Hugh and Isabella married at St Bede's RC Chapel, Clayton Green on twenty ninth May 1849. Hugh was aged 20 and Isabella 22. Hugh gives his occupation as Wheelwright, of Brindle. His father was George Crook, a Bricklayer. Isabella is from Clayton-le-Woods and her father James Leeming, Farmer. The witnesses to the wedding were Henry Waring and Ann Crook. The priest was James Dowding and James Riley was the registrar.

Until I got hold of the wedding certificate I had been under the impression that Hugh's parents were Edward Crook and Alice Almond. I'd got back a further 250 years through Alice's ancestry before finding out I was wrong!
