By the time of the 1881 census there's an Elizabeth Jolley, a widow aged 59, living at 18 Preston Road, Standish with Langtree.
Living with her are Mary, her daughter, a Labourer in Brick Yard, William, her son, a Checkweighman (Coal Miner) and his wife Mary, a Colliery Girl.
I'm not 100% sure this is the right family, but she's the only Elizabeth on the 1881 return who fits the bill, and there's no John Jolley to be found. I'm making an educated guess that this is the correct family based on age and the fact that her daughter is named Mary, and one of the witnesses at the wedding of her other daughter, Elizabeth, was Mary Jolley. However, her age doesn't tally with her age on the 51 census. |
