| Notes for Robert Dyke | ||||||||||||||||||||
| At the time of Robert's birth, his father John was an overlooker in a cotton factory. The birth was registered on 10th July 1858 by his mother, the registrar being Jeffrey Baynes. Robert's detah at home, 38 Arundel Street, of progressive anaemia, was certified by N Readman, M. B. His death was certified by his son Thomas of 8 Trentham Street, on twelfth August, the registrar being Jeffery Baynes. Does that mean he held the post for a very long time, or is the Jeffery of the death the son of the Jeffrey of the birth (they are spelt differently)? | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes for Elizabeth (Spouse 1) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| At the time of the 1881 census Elizabeth was living with her widowed grandmother, brothers and sisters and two of her cousins, Richard Adhurst, 16 and a Coal Miner, and Elizabeth Ashurst, 13 and a Throstle Spinner in a Cotton Mill. They had been born in Queensferry in Flint, Wales. I haven't found her parents anywhere on the 1881 census returns. It may be they were both dead, but since Edward appears on Elizabeth's wedding certificate and it doesn't say he was deceased I think he was alive somewhere. Hopefully I'll eventually find them. On the census Elizabeth's occupation is given as Mule Spinner in a Cotton Mill, living in the Barracks in Orrel. At the time of their wedding, Elizabeth lived in Lamberhead Green, Orrell. Elizabeth died on 18th June 1938, aged 78, of Senile Decay, certified by William Readman, M.B. Her occupation was given as Robert Dyke, Coal Miner Hewer. Her death was registered by her daughter in law Gertrude Dyke, of 281 Warrington Road, Pemberton, on 20th June 1938. The registrar was Joseph Bate. | ||||||||||||||||||||
