On the 1851 census return James, aged 15, was working as a Labourer at Large.
In the 1881 census there is a James Dyke, his wife Jane and family living at 2 Bradford St, Wigan. Seems quite a coincidence so I have assumed this is the right James, so all family members are taken from the census returns. However, the census returns give James' date of birth as 1840. This is more likely than 1836, as that would otherwise make his brother 6 months old when James was born, though it's possible Thomas was baptised at a few month's old. |
