| Notes for Dorothy Woolfall | ||||||||||||||
| Dorothy is not mentioned in her husband's will, so she must either have pre deceased him, or they must have divorced or seperated prior to the will being written. | ||||||||||||||
| Notes for John (Spouse 1) | ||||||||||||||
| Lived at 55 Plumb St, Kirkdale. John Dykes made his will in 1783, just before his death. It went to probate Nov 29th, and was granted December 31st 1796, 13 years after his death. However, we also have a date of death of January 1796. Can't remember where the two different dates come from. Anyway, the full text of the will follows: "This is the last Will and Testament of me John Dykes of Kirkdale in the County of Lancaster, Yeoman, made and duly published by me the Twentieth day of June One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Eighty Three FIRST I desire and direct that all my Just Debts Funeral Expenses and five shillings which I hereby give to the Singers at Walton and the charges of the Probate of this my Will be paid out of the whole of my Estate and Effects both Real and Personal and after payment thereof I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Son William Dykes of Liverpool in the County aforesaid Watchspring maker ALL that my ??? or Dwelling house situated in Plumb Street in Liverpool aforesaid. SIGNED Sealed Published and Delivered by the said Testator according to Law in the presence of us. his letters John J. D. Dykes or ??? William Singleton Ellen Miles Peter Miles" The will went to probate as below... "Liverpool November 29th 1796 Thomas Barlow & Edward Ashcroft within named Executors were this day sworn in due form before me Effects above fifty & } Sam Renshaw, Surrogate under one hundred pounds } Providence D 31st 1796" This will is very hard to read, due to the old fashined style of writing and faded nature so in several places I have shown words I could not make out as ???. I may also have made mistakes with some of the other words, as in places it does not make sense, although I am sure I have read correctly. Although there is mention of children (plural) of Nancy and Henry Makin, I have so far only found evidence of one, Betty, baptised 10/03/1782. | ||||||||||||||
